Patients can take advantage of skilled and non-skilled homecare at their fingertips
ELKRIDGE, Md. (June 2, 2016) – MedStar Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) recently partnered with HomeCare.com to expand access to medical care services in the home, like skilled nursing and physical or occupational therapy, for the website’s customers. MedStar VNA – the largest home healthcare provider in the Maryland, D.C. and Northern Virginia region – will fulfill HomeCare.com’s requests for skilled medical care, since HomeCare.com predominantly specializes in non-skilled care like companionship, hygiene and household care.
Traditionally, patients gain access to skilled home healthcare services through their physician or a social worker after a being released from the hospital or other care facility. In this technology age, consumers are increasingly seeking care and services through online resources.
According to Suzanne Proctor, vice president of Business Development, MedStar VNA, “We want people to be able to access skilled care whenever they need medical expertise. We know that people often seek resources like HomeCare.com because they have chronic health conditions or disabilities that make it difficult for them to live independently. From our experience, these individuals often need skilled home healthcare services as well.”
The skilled medical expertise provided by MedStar VNA’s providers can assist HomeCare.com clients who may need more than basic supportive care. Skilled medical care can only be provided by a registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, physical therapist, occupational therapist, or speech therapist.
“While we currently receive most of our patients through relationships with community hospitals, doctor’s offices, and senior living facilities, consumers want greater control of their healthcare options. They want access to healthcare at their fingertips,” said Proctor. “This is an ideal partnership because it gives customers access to all of the types of care they may need.”
