Myrna Marcelin, RN – Suburban Maryland
Myrna has been a part of MedStar VNA for more than 20 years. As a homecare RN, she spends her workdays visiting patients at their homes to help patients and their families improve their quality of life. During these visits, Myrna provides physical assessments and wound care treatments as necessary, and teaches patients about their medications and how to prevent disease complications.
When asked why she has stayed with MedStar VNA for so many years, Myrna credits the variety of experiences that home care offers. “I love what I’m doing. I get to meet so many different people and have different experiences every day. I always look forward to meeting new patients and their families, and hope to be able to improve at least one person’s life each day.
“I also love the people I work with. I know I’m never alone and if at anytime I need someone, I can contact another nurse or my preceptor. Working here, you’re not just an employee—you’re a person and a team member; you’re part of a family.”
With all the reasons why Myrna decided to work at MedStar, it’s no wonder her daughter did, too. Djenny-Ann Marcelin started as a labor and delivery nurse at MedStar Georgetown University hospital five years ago.
