Gratitude has the Power to Heal

We will celebrate our growing culture of gratitude by creating awareness about philanthropy and how it can impact our patients and their families. Expressions of gratitude have been shown to increase positivity and happiness, deepening our relationships with one another.

Oliver Williams outlived his first left ventricular assist device (LVAD), a kind of artificial heart pump, defying the difficult odds of his medical condition. Upon receiving his second LVAD, Jennifer Laughton, RN, was assigned as his home health care manager. “When Jennifer visits my home, she checks my blood, makes sure I am eating the right things and helps me make smart choices for my LVAD. Her visits are something I look forward to every week. I’m forever grateful. She’s saved my life, more than once!” Oliver is incredibly thankful, not just for the care he receives from Jennifer, but for their invaluable friendship.

Tom Stoner found out that due to an unforeseen severity in his knee injury his rehabilitation post-surgery would be longer than expected. “I woke up from surgery with a large cast and long road to recovery. Kim helped me stand up and face the challenging steps in front of me. She encouraged me to overcome the physical and mental hurdles by helping me focus on achieving my daily goals.” Kim Robrecht, MPT, stepped in during week one of post-operative care and helped motivate Tom throughout his recovery. Grateful for Kim’s care, Tom has achieved many of his personal goals and hopes to soon return to competitive croquet.
